Mulching
Spring is here and it is time to prepare your gardens for the best results for the warmer months ahead. One of the best ways to do this is by mulching your gardens.

There are four main tasks mulch is required to provide:
1.    Mulch will retain moisture from rain or watering to keep soil moist.
2.    When mulch breaks down, it will provide organic matter to soils below.
3.    Mulch will help stop the development of weeds by providing the soil with no sunlight.
4.    Mulch will maintain soil temps throughout the seasons.

There are many varieties of mulches to choose from. We recommend the use of fine grade mulch. Not only is the fine mulch more aesthetic, it will complete its desired tasks better as it sits tighter together than larger grade mulch.

If you are mulching your garden for the first time we recommend you spread your mulch over your garden to a depth of approximately 75mm. If you are mulching a garden that has previously been mulched we recommend you spread your mulch to a depth of 50mm. In both situations, do not mulch up tree trunks or plant stems for risk of pest or disease.
